Custom Trucker Hats in Canada: The YP 6506
The one cap we stock, and the easiest to decorate: a seamless single front panel with no centre seam for a logo to straddle. Plus how leather patches work.
- This is the cap we stock
- The Yupoong / Flexfit YP Classics 6506 Retro Trucker is our standard headwear blank — so unlike most hat styles, you can build and price it yourself online rather than waiting on a quote.
- Construction
- Mid-profile five-panel: structured buckram-backed front, breathable mesh back panels, pre-curved visor, adjustable plastic snapback. Crown height 3.5″.
- Fabric
- 74% polyester / 26% cotton structured front and crown, mesh back. Yupoong changed this from 65/35, so mixed stock may ship — ask first if an exact composition matters.
- Seamless front panel
- No centre seam to straddle. That is the single thing that makes a trucker easier to decorate cleanly than a six-panel cap, especially for wide logos and centred text.
- Leather patches are a separate product
- Patches are made on their own and applied, with sew-on, iron-on, velcro or adhesive backings. For a cap that gets real wear, have them sewn rather than ironed.
- Volume pricing
- Large orders get volume pricing. In the online design studio the per-piece price drops at 12, 24, 50 and 100 pieces, and every colour of the same garment in one order counts toward the same price break.
- Turnaround
- Standard turnaround on clothing is 1–2 weeks. Most apparel orders can rush — 4–5 business days or 1–3 business days, priced at checkout — and every order shows the dates it will be ready before you pay.
What makes a trucker a trucker
The trucker hat started as a giveaway cap from farm-supply and trucking companies, which is where the name comes from. The construction that made it cheap to give away is the same one that makes it good to decorate: a stiff foam or buckram front panel to carry a logo, and mesh at the back so it costs less and breathes better.
Three features define it, and each one has a consequence for your order:
- Structured front. Stands up on its own, gives the embroidery machine something firm to stitch against, and holds a logo square across a whole run.
- Mesh back panels. Cooler to wear, lighter to ship — and not a surface for dense stitching, so secondary marks go on the front or beside the closure.
- Snapback closure. One size fits most, which removes the entire size-collection problem from a group order.

The 6506, specifically
Our standard blank is the YP Classics 6506 Retro Trucker from Yupoong / Flexfit. It is a mid-profile five-panel with a hard buckram-backed structured front, mesh back panels, a pre-curved visor and an adjustable plastic snapback.
| Spec | Value | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Front panel | Seamless, single | Nothing for a logo to straddle |
| Crown height | 3.5″ mid profile | Caps how tall a logo can be |
| Fabric | 74/26 poly-cotton front | Stable under the needle |
| Back | Mesh panels | Breathable; not for dense stitching |
| Fit | 6⅝″–7⅝″ snapback | No sizes to collect |
The honest caveat: Yupoong moved the front and crown from a 65/35 blend to 74/26, and mixed stock may still ship. It changes nothing about how the cap decorates or wears. It only matters if you are filling in a spec sheet, in which case ask us to confirm what is on the shelf before you order.
Why a trucker is the easiest cap to decorate
Most caps are six-panel, which means a seam runs up the centre of the forehead. Machine embroidery can cross that seam, but the stitches sit fractionally differently either side of it. On a round badge nobody notices. On a wide wordmark with straight vertical strokes, or anything centred and symmetrical, you can see it — and once you have seen it on one hat you see it on all fifty.
A trucker’s front is one piece. There is nothing to cross, so a logo lies flat and square. Combine that with the buckram stiffener holding the panel still under the needle and you get the most forgiving cap surface there is. If you have a logo that has given other decorators trouble, this is usually the blank that fixes it.
The same constraint as all headwear still applies: below roughly a quarter inch, stitched letterforms fill in and stop being legible. A bold mark stitches beautifully; a tagline in small type under a logo normally has to go. Our custom hats guide covers the decoration rules across every style, and digitizing explained covers the stitch file itself.

Leather patch truckers, and how they actually work
The leather-patch trucker is the look that took over outdoor and trade branding, and it is worth understanding that it is two products: a cap, and a patch made separately then applied to it.
That separation is useful rather than a complication. A patchis made flat, which means it can carry detail that direct embroidery on a curved crown cannot — fine linework, small type, a debossed or laser-engraved mark on leather. If your logo is too intricate to stitch at cap scale, a patch is usually the answer rather than a compromise.
Backings matter more than people expect. Patches come with sew-on, iron-on, velcro or adhesive backings, and for a cap that gets real wear you want them sewn. Iron-on is convenient and does not survive a hat that lives in a truck, gets rained on and goes through a wash. Our guide to patch types compares embroidered, woven, PVC and chenille and goes through the backings properly.

Who orders trucker caps, and why
The trucker has a specific set of buyers, and the reasons are practical rather than fashionable.
- Trades and construction. Breathable in summer, cheap enough to replace, and the structured front keeps a company logo readable across a site. Pairs with workwear and hi-vis.
- Breweries, cafés and retail merch. A leather-patch trucker sells at a counter in a way a plain cap does not.
- Outdoor and guiding businesses. The mesh back is the whole argument in July.
- Golf days and events. One size fits most removes the size-collection problem entirely, which is why caps are the easiest item on an event order.
- Teams. Bench caps alongside the kit — see custom hockey jerseys for how headwear fits a team order.

Cost, quantity and timing
Embroidery is priced by stitch countrather than by colour, so a dense filled crest costs more to run than a clean wordmark of the same width. Digitizing — the one-time conversion of your logo into a stitch file — is a separate setup you pay once and reuse on every reorder. A leather patch is priced as its own item on top of the cap.
In the online design studio the per-piece price drops at 12, 24, 50 and 100 pieces, and every colour of the same garment in one order counts toward the same price break. Caps are usually ordered in two or three colourways at once, and that clause means those count as one quantity rather than separate orders.
Standard turnaround on clothing is 1–2 weeks. Most apparel orders can rush — 4–5 business days or 1–3 business days, priced at checkout — and every order shows the dates it will be ready before you pay. A first embroidered run includes digitizing, and a patch order adds a production step, so give us the real date if you have one. Orders in the hundreds are quoted through the free quote form.
You can build the cap yourself in the free studio with no account and no deposit. Every order is reviewed by a human designer before it goes to press. A person checks artwork resolution, colour, sizing and placement, and either fixes the file or tells you what is wrong — it is not an automated preflight. On a cap that check usually ends in a recommendation to simplify, which lowers the stitch count and the price at the same time.
Frequently asked questions
Can I order custom trucker hats online?
Yes — this is the one hat style we stock, so you can build and price it yourself in the free design studio rather than waiting on a quote. Place your logo on a real YP Classics 6506, pick colours and quantity, and the per-piece price updates as you go. Other hat styles are available but quoted, because we source those blanks per order.
What is the difference between a trucker and a regular baseball cap?
Two things: the back and the front. A trucker has mesh back panels instead of fabric, which is cooler and lighter, and a structured front stiffened with buckram. Most ordinary baseball caps are six-panel with a seam up the centre front; a trucker's front is a single seamless panel, which is why logos sit flatter on it.
Are leather patch hats embroidered or something else?
Neither exactly — the patch is a separate product, made flat and then applied to the cap. That is what lets it carry detail a curved, stiffened crown cannot hold in thread: fine linework, small type, a debossed or engraved mark. You can combine them, with a patch on the front and stitched text beside the closure.
Should the patch be sewn or ironed on?
Sewn, for any cap that gets real wear. Iron-on backing is convenient and it does not survive a hat that lives outdoors, gets rained on or goes through a wash. Velcro is worth considering if you genuinely want to swap the patch; adhesive is for short-term use only.
Do I need to collect hat sizes from everyone?
No, and it is one of the best reasons to put caps on a group order. The 6506 is one-size-fits-most with an adjustable snapback rated for hat sizes 6⅝″ to 7⅝″ — roughly a 21″ to 24″ head. That removes the size-collection step that slows down every apparel order.
Can you stitch on the mesh back panels?
Not densely. Mesh is an open knit, so it will not hold a filled logo the way the structured front does — stitches pull and the shape distorts. Small text or a simple mark beside the snapback closure works; a full secondary logo belongs on the front or on a side panel instead.
How many trucker hats do I need for bulk pricing?
The per-piece price drops at 12, 24, 50 and 100 pieces, and every colour of the same cap in one order counts toward the same break — so black, white and camo in one order price as one quantity. Orders in the hundreds are quoted directly and get the same free mockup and human designer check as a single cap.
Design it yourself. A human designer still checks every order.
Our free studio gives you the price and the mockup in the browser. What it doesn't do is print your file blindly — every order is reviewed by a real designer before it reaches the press.
- Step 1You design it — free
Upload your logo, drop it on a real garment, set the size and placement, pick colours and quantities. No account, no deposit, no waiting on a reply.
- Step 2A human designer checks it
Before anything prints, one of our designers opens your file and checks resolution, colours, sizing and placement. If it won't print well, we fix it or tell you exactly what's wrong — a person, not an automated preflight.
- Step 3You approve, then we print
You get the corrected mockup back on the actual product. Nothing goes to press until you say yes — then it's ready in 1–2 weeks, or in 1–3 business days with a rush.
